| The main reason I went to Far Northern Queensland was to see Port Douglas. This is a developing tourist town that has grown tremendously in the past 10 years. Property prices have shot up along with the cost of living. If the cruise ships start arriving in "Port," it will soon become Queensland's Key West. |
| I dropped my gear at Port O'Call and took off into town to check it out. |

This is where I met One Hep Deb - we had a few beers! |

| Flying foxes (bats) were my neighbors across the street from the Lodge. They were quite vocal at dusk. |

| Four Mile Beach is Port Douglas's famous beach. The plane that used to deliver the mail used this beach as a landing strip. |
This is the only place where I saw people swimming. Stinger nets were still in place and would stay until sometime in June.
The sand is so hard here, I rented a bicycle and rode the entire length of the beach.

Kite surfers distance themselves from stingers by putting a lot of air between them! |

Mangroves are prolific here in Queensland and are not allowed to be trimmed or destroyed.

| Every Sunday there is a village market in Anzac Park that attracts tourists and locals alike. |
| At the market you'll find arts and crafts, jewelry, fruit and vegetables, glassware, books, coffee, boats and a lot more... |
| Tropical bean and seed jewelry |
Sculpey frogs on logs |
Driftwood art |

| St. Mary's By The Sea sits in the middle of Anzac Park. |
| This 1880 photo of St. Mary's shows little difference to the way the church looks today. A cyclone in 1911 destroyed the church and it was rebuilt. In 1989 it was restored and moved to its present location. |

| After all that shopping in the market I was ready for a beer and basket of fish and chips at the Port Douglas Combined Club (Members, Guests and Bona Fide Visitors Welcome). Visitors only have to sign in - no membership fee! |
